Principal's Message
Welcome to the Pawhuska Elementary School website. We are a Kindergarten through third grade elementary school in the heart of Osage County. Our staff is knowledgeable and dedicated to making a difference in the life of a child. A positive, nurturing environment is created throughout the school by using the Great Expectations methodology. We believe that All children can learn by incorporating self-esteem, creating a climate of mutual respect, and setting high expectations for our students. Our teachers have the knowledge and skills, as well as, a great attitude for the success of our students. Character is an important part of our curriculum. Each week a word of the week and a quote are shared with our students during a weekly assembly, Rise N Shine. Literacy is an important part of our curriculum. Every day, 2 hours per day our primary focus is on reading. We are a Literacy First Phase IV school. This process has increased student achievement and strengthened our reading program. Penny Goldesberry is our Literacy Resource Specialist that works in collaboration with our staff to create the best reading program possible for our students. Our staff is committed to helping students be the best that they can be. We also offer the Fast Forward program to students having difficulty in reading, speech and/or language. This is an intense, computer software program that has scientific research to support its results. We are also fortunate to have a 24 computer station lab that offers a learning experience for the individual student. Students access the lab 20-30 minutes every other day to increase their knowledge. Our media center collaborates with our staff to assist in student learning. We have a fantastic library of books, reference materials and videos. Each year our third graders have the opportunity to hear community members spark their interest in books at Storytelling in the Park. Our school is a Title I Schoolwide elementary. Many activities are planned to involve parents and promote learning. Each year activities are planned for Red Ribbon Week, Parent Picnic on the school grounds, an Author Tea and Super Kid's Day. Pawhuska Elementary School invites parents and other interested partners of education to join in helping the students of Pawhuska. Pawhuska Elementary Parents (PEP) meets quarterly to assist our school and staff. We also collect empty ink cartridges, Campbell's soup labels, BoxTops for Education and Best Choice labels. Any of these items may be left at the elementary office. I appreciate your interest in our school. I would encourage you to visit our site and meet the staff.
